One young woman wrote about the untimely and tragic death of her lifelong friend at the age of 20.

Another, a teen girl, described a furious and thundering ocean as she read her award-winning poem to a crowd of about 50 people.

And 16-year-old Jordan Parsons wrote a description of a teen suicide....
