Tear into a book with an X-acto knife and you're bound to draw gasps.
Likewise if you covered it in paint, ripped out pages and scrawled inside.
To many, defacing a book is sacrilege, worthy of a trip to the principal's office or expulsion from the library.
But what if the book were old, damaged....
