From a distance, the Badlands don't look so bad.
Simple maybe, a little harsh for sure, but not all bad. Drive past them going east out of Bend and you see junipers, some sage and other hardy shrubs, rocks and sandy soil. It's easy to blow right by, subconsciously categorizing this stern country....
