Nonlethal force tried before fatal La Pine shooting

Five officers put on paid leave pending grand jury review of case

Officials remained tight-lipped Monday about a fatal police shooting in La Pine, but did say that officers tried to stop a knife-wielding man with a beanbag-propelling shotgun before resorting to deadly force.
