Land managers plan to let some fires burn

Unsuppressed fires could aid ecosystems

Lightning struck in the Three Sisters Wilderness Area on July 23, sparking the Black Crater Fire that spread to more than 9,000 acres and threatened houses west of Sisters. Since its outbreak, almost 1,000 fire personnel and $9.3 million have been dedicated to quenching the fire.
