Fire burns near Elk Lake, closes Cascades highway

Fires also consume nearly 1,000 acres in Deschutes, Ochoco national forests

A fire that burned Tuesday night near Elk Lake Resort closed Cascade Lakes Highway to visitors between Lava Lake and Forest Road 4625, according to Bill Johnson with the U.S. Forest Service.

The road remained closed as of 9 p.m. because of smoke from the 40-acre Elk Lake Fire burning about one....
