Prineville puts local spin on National Day of the American Cowboy

PRINEVILLE - In a grassy area at Ochoco Creek Park near downtown, 9-year-old Josiah VanKirk hurled a hatchet at a battered stump target.

Though he missed a few times, it didn't dampen his enthusiasm.

"Want to try, Mom?" he asked. "It's fun."
