High school NJROTC student hopes to compete at nationals

Jacob Ryder spins a 13-pound rifle in front of him clockwise, counterclockwise and above his head in Mountain View High School's gymnasium before class begins at 8 a.m. on a recent day.

The 17-year-old junior is a Naval Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps cadet, active in drill team events.....
