Avalanche rescue dogs Kasha, Kenai and Salcha earn their certifications at Mt. Bachelor ski area

Running down an unstable slope, Kasha, a German shepherd, lost her footing and tumbled in her search to find two volunteers buried deep beneath the snow.

She surfaced, her face speckled white with powder, and continued to sweep the "avalanche field," sniffing for signs of life.
