Airlines save money by using outside contractors for repairs

The cash-squeezed airline industry is increasingly outsourcing many of its ground operations - from baggage-loading to aircraft maintenance - a trend that could affect air-travel safety, according to a report last month from the U.S. Transportation Department's inspector general.
