Permit sought for stone sampling

A local company wants to explore Deschutes National Forest land for decorative stones that could be mined and sold.

Empire Stone Company LLC, of Bend, has asked the U.S. Forest Service for a special-use permit to look for rocks south of The High Desert Museum and east of Highway 97.
