Duncan Reid carved his first turns on cumbersome wooden skis well before Hitler invaded Poland.

Later he helped beat back the Nazi army in the Italian Alps as a member of the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division ski troops and earned a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his valor.
