A close encounter with a cougar in Central Oregon serves as a lesson for area hunters

Guy Wheeler had been hunting deer alone in the woods for six days, so when he heard the noise behind him, he immediately turned around.

The cougar crouched about 15 feet away from him, as Wheeler sat on a log in the Walker Rim area of the Fort Rock Unit in Central Oregon last month.
