Champion picker matures into the role of songwriter

Although he made his name as a bluegrass-picking banjo champion, these days, Tony Furtado is mostly a rootsy slide guitarist.

He still breaks out his Earl Scruggs-model banjo for a few songs when he performs in concert, but he does most of his playing on a Les Paul guitar.
