Redmond firm makes bid to fly firefighting planes

Butler Aircraft hopes to win the contract with U.S. Forest Service

Last year, the U.S. Forest Service canceled contracts with the operators of 33 heavy air tankers used for fighting wildfires, citing safety concerns. Now, with experts predicting a severe 2005 fire season, federal officials are offering air tankers and their operators a second chance.
