Bend council backs room for four lanes on bridge

Newport Avenue Bridge proposal would reduce lane width, remove 16-foot median

A majority of Bend city councilors said they support a bridge design with room to go to four lanes over the Deschutes River on Newport Avenue.

Four of seven city councilors said they support building a 72-foot-wide bridge that leaves room to expand for future traffic demands.
