Bend native Frank Chess loses sleep when snowstorms threaten Deschutes County.

Literally.

A heavy equipment operator who has worked for the county road department for more than 23 years, Chess said a heavy snowfall often means logging 14- to 16-hour days in the cab of a county snowplow.
