Central Oregonians wish for snow

Starting the winter drier than usual, Central Oregon needs a hefty snowfall to have a good water year.

Skiers and snowboarders aren't the only ones praying for snow. Watermaster Jeremy Giffin said snow is critical to a good water year, meaning enough water in the Deschutes River to sustain irrigators, fish and - to a lesser extent - city dwellers.

The water year runs from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30, and....
