Recent election data show November's school and transit levies failed to sway rural and suburban voters. Fear of rising property taxes, mistrust of school spending and questions about necessity helped fuel opposition.

There's a deep-seated suspicion shared by some opponents of the Bend-La Pine school levy, which failed in November. They don't trust the schools' management of money.

For reasons they sometimes cannot specify, the voters are convinced the money needed to run the school district exists.
