Zoe McAlear bent over an aluminum washtub set atop hay bales in downtown Bend and straightened triumphantly a few seconds later, an apple in her mouth.
Her strategy?
"Go for the longest stem," the 10-year-old said, watching her 8-year-old brother, Zach, chase another apple.
