When I was a kid, the first section of the newspaper I read was the Sunday comics. My dad has a wonderful sense of humor; I began reading the cartoons that caused my father to laugh out loud.
Later, I read Dear Abby and worked at solving the word jumble and crossword puzzles - my mom does these....
