REDMOND - Spc. Robert Lucas sat cross-legged on a small patch of grass at the Redmond Airport, tossing a small plastic ball to his 3-year-old son, Hunter.

Lucas, an interior decorator from Sisters and member of the National Guard, was dressed in full uniform. His helmet and gun lay on the grass....
