Wood heat is cheaper, but it's not any cleaner

Andy Michaelis uses a wood stove to heat his Bend home because it's cheaper.

But while it may cost less than a natural gas or electric stove, he said it's also kind of a hassle. The stove takes awhile to heat up and the wood chips surrounding the stove are a bit messy.
