Early on, shrewd men knew there was value in the stately ponderosa pines covering the slopes surrounding Bend.

The trees were huge and covered a vast territory in what was then Crook, Lake and Klamath counties - virgin forests ripe for the feller's saw.

A few even predicted what the timber would....
