Schools to make crippling cutbacks

The Bend-La Pine School District will eliminate middle school sports, cut 30 teaching positions and double pay-to-play fees under an $83.85 million budget proposed Tuesday by Superintendent Doug Nelson.

And the bad news, Nelson said, is that's the best-case scenario for the next school....
