Bend's aging malls changing formats

While stores struggle, new construction in parking lots may be the answer

Mountain View Mall was dark and quiet and shoppers were scarce on a Wednesday evening in March. Vacated stores throughout the mall are either the cause of the silence or the effect, or a bit of each.

Eventually part of the mall will be knocked down to clear the way for another business....
