Atta Boy sled dog dies during first stage of race

A sled dog belonging to one of the top contenders in the Atta Boy 300 sled dog race died Monday on the course.

"It's a real tragedy and we extend our sympathy toward (the musher)," said Jerry Scdoris, the race's director.

The sled dog belonged to Melanie Shirilla of Lincoln, Mont.
