Loading a ton of explosives into a truck and driving into the middle of the hot desert does not sound like the stuff of vacations.

Yet the pyrotechnicians aiming to ignite the Bend sky tonight with 20-pound aerial explosions in all hues of the rainbow call it exactly that.
