Bird watching takes flight

A movement in the trees along the Deschutes River in Bend catches Jennifer Lair's eye.

"In the small juniper," she says to her husband, Kevin Lair.

"High or low?" he asks, lifting his binoculars.

She points and soon both have zeroed in on a black-headed grosbeak, a small bird....
