Census reveals young, mobile Central Oregon population

Majority of Bend's residents originally from out of state

The most recent data from the 2000 census backs up what everyone suspected: Central Oregon is young and growing.

Approximately 55 percent of school children in Bend are in the eighth grade or below, including kindergarten and preschool. That roughly mirrors the same statistic for Oregon.
