The desert beckons mountain bikers this time of year

Now is the best time of year to mountain bike out on the desert to the east of Bend.

While the trails to the west are still 4- to 8-feet under, the Badlands, Horse Ridge and the seemingly infinite, flat, wide open land beyond is dust-free and beckoning.
