Bend shoppers making this Christmas count

Despite slowing economy, many are still spending

Shoppers opened up their wallets this holiday and spent just about as liberally as they have any other Christmas. The tragedy of Sept. 11 and the economy's downward slide only made them more aware of how money was being spent, many shoppers said Sunday.
