A developer scheduled a public meeting Monday to air details of a plan to build a self-storage facility in the NorthWest Crossing area of Bend.
Due to interest in the project, Panterra Development LLC moved the meeting site to the Summit High School library, 2855 N.W. Clearwater Drive, Bend. The meeting starts at 4 p.m. The school could not be reached Friday afternoon to confirm the change.
Panterra manager Jeff Payne said he expects about 60 people to show up. “It’s hard to know," he said. “We’ve received some letters; some are for, some against."
The proposal calls for 300-350 self-storage units on 4.22 acres on the west side of Mt. Washington Drive. The parcel is also bounded on the west by Northwest New York Drive and the south by Lolo Drive. The lot is zoned as industrial park, so no change is needed. But city law states a developer must hold a public meeting and take comments on projects of more than 10,000 square feet.
Ruth Zdanowicz, of Bend, said several homeowners east of the site object to a self-storage facility there. They said it would change the character of the neighborhood and cause a decline in residential property values. She said she expects at least 20 people in opposition to show up Monday.
