Oregon State University Extension Service is offering the chance to become a master food preserver.
Volunteers participate in 48 hours of in-depth training regarding food safety and preservation during Wednesday classes from April 3 to June 5. The classes are at the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center in Redmond. Cost is $50.
Participants will receive hands-on training in a kitchen setting. After the training, participants must spend time helping other individuals learn about food preservation and food safety. Activities may include workshops, testing pressure canner gauges or helping at local fairs or farmers markets.
Applications for the program are due Thursday and are available at http://extension.oregonstate.edu/deschutes/food-preservation or by calling 541-548-6088.
