A foul-mouthed fest for the winter-weary

Published: March 15. 2013 4:00AM PST

Wednesday is officially the first day of spring.

But anyone who has lived in Central Oregon for at least one trip around the sun knows that “officially" is the key word there. We can expect wintry weather until May or June.

That’s why there are things like Saturday’s all-day gathering of punk and metal bands at the Domino Room with a very spring-feverish name. For a family newspaper, I’m going to call it the Eff Winter Fest and let you figure it out from there.

This thing is a like an overstuffed burrito of heavy/loud/fast bands, both local and from farther out on the West Coast. There’s California punks Slow Children, Decent Criminal and Violation, hardcore metalheads Blood-oath and grimy rockers General Nasty from Portland, and a range of Central Oregon bands, from metal-leaning (Existential Depression, Murk and Hive Tyrant) to punkish (Bastard Cat, Jerry’s Middle Finger).

Here’s the thing, though: headbanging, yeah. Circle pit, hell yeah! Lots of sweat, for sure. But this event is also about helping a local organization that can always use help, the Human Dignity Coalition, which will benefit from the $8 cover.

There’s a potluck planned, as well as pingpong and more. The fun will kick off at 2 p.m.

Punk/Metal Show, with a bunch of bands listed above; 2 p.m. Saturday; $8; Domino Room, 51 N.W. Greenwood Ave., Bend; www .m-o-m-p.blogspot.com.
