1949 - 2013
Norma Ruth Wareing Faddis passed away from sudden heart failure Sunday, March 10, at Saint Charles Hospital. Norma was born in Redmond in 1949, to Donald and Mary Wareing and lived in Central Oregon all of her life. In 1974, she married Robert Faddis (Bert) with whom she had two children, Michelle Price and Brian Faddis, who live in Bend.
Norma is also survived by her sisters, Jeannine, Eunice, Joyce, Helen and Nancy; along with several nieces, nephews and her grandson, Austin Moulton.
Norma centered her life on her family, her friends, her kitchen, garden and outdoor recreation. In the 1970s, Norma and Bert "discovered" the Eastern Oregon desert, especially the Owyhee country. Bert is a dedicated fly fisher and upland bird hunter and the family was usually out camping somewhere nearly every weekend and vacation.
Her adult children families continued to join their parents on many of the trips; this was what Norma lived for. When she and Bert matured they bought a comfortable trailer to afford themselves a bit of luxury in their travels. Their grown children loved to call that trailer "The Mother Ship."
Since her husband hunts and fishes, Norma shared with Bert the art of cooking wild game. They would often stop by his mother's with a serving or two of chucker or quail done just right.
Norma was a "giver." Whenever there was a mission to accomplish, we all knew we could count on her to be there early, work hard and finally feed everyone. This quality was not restricted to her family. After good friends died in an auto accident, Norma and Bert took their surviving daughter, Sherry, into the family and raised her for three years until she graduated from high school.
Norma also had a green thumb. We are sure she was already looking for where she could buy her tomato starts this spring (Super Sweet 100's). Her sisters recognized her as the master gardener of the family and entrusted her with the care of a very special family heirloom, a prayer plant that once belonged to their grandmother who passed away in 1955. It is still blooming today in Norma and Bert's living room.
Norma was well loved by all who knew her and she will be deeply missed. Norma's friends and family will celebrate her life on Friday at 1:00 p.m., at the Elks Lodge, 63120 Boyd Acres Road, Bend.
