The birth rate among teenagers in the U.S. continues to decline, according to the vital statistics report for 2010-11. The birth rate for ages 15-19 is at a historic low, at 31.3 births per 1,000 women.
The information, which is compiled from the National Center for Health Statistics, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, also includes data on many other aspects of birth and children. The report found that the percentage of children born preterm dropped for the fifth straight year to 11.7 percent.
Overall, the number of births in the U.S. declined by 1 percent.
