Saints falls in 1A playoffs — Trinity Lutheran, which made the Class 1A girls basketball state postseason in just its second year to sponsor a program, lost to host Elkton 43-28 on Wednesday in the first round of the playoffs. Abbey Carpenter recorded eight points and 13 rebounds and Katie Murphy added eight points and nine boards, but the Saints struggled against Elkton’s press for most of the night. Trinity Lutheran ends the year with a 14-11 overall record.

Rockets trade with Suns, Kings — A person familiar with the situation says the Houston Rockets have reached separate agreements on trades that will send Patrick Patterson, Cole Aldrich and Toney Douglas to Sacramento and Marcus Morris to Phoenix. The Rockets will receive Thomas Robinson, Francisco Garcia and Tyler Honeycutt from the Kings, according to the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal had not been announced and was still pending league approval. In the other deal, the person said the Rockets will receive a future second-round pick from the Suns in exchange for Morris.

Sabres fire coach — Lindy Ruff is out as coach in Buffalo, meaning the slow-starting, inconsistent and sometimes lethargic Sabres have now become Ron Rolston’s mess to clean up. Rolston was promoted from the Sabres’ minor-league affiliate, AHL Rochester, to finish out the season as Buffalo’s interim head coach Wednesday. The move was made hours after Ruff was fired amid growing criticism for the team’s early season struggles.

NCAA says former coaches misled probe — The NCAA believes former Miami assistant coaches Clint Hurtt, Aubrey Hill and Jorge Fernandez provided false or misleading information during the probe into the Hurricanes’ athletic department. The NCAA said all three violated “principles of ethical conduct" as part of the notice of allegations served against the Hurricanes, according to a person who spoke to The Associated Press Wednesday on condition of anonymity because the allegations have not been released publicly. Hurtt and Hill were members of Miami’s football staff. Fernandez worked on the men’s basketball staff.
