Beavers roll over UC Riverside — For the second consecutive game, the Oregon State baseball team sent 10 batters to the plate and scored six runs in an inning. On Sunday, those six runs came in the first inning and helped support first-time starter Andrew Moore in the Beavers’ 14-3 win over UC Riverside at Palm Springs Stadium. The Beavers finished with just four hits in the inning, but also took advantage of three walks amongst the team’s first four batters en route to the early advantage. The win pushed Oregon State to 3-0. The Beavers will finish the tournament today against UC Riverside at 8:30 a.m.
Ducks take series over Hawaii — Ryon Healy and Aaron Payne had four hits apiece and lefthander Cole Irvin pitched seven solid innings in his collegiate debut to pace Oregon to a 9-5 win over host Hawaii at Les Murakami Stadium Sunday afternoon in Honolulu. With the victory, the Ducks (3-0) stayed unbeaten on the season while keeping the Rainbows (0-3) winless, and guaranteed themselves a series’ win in the four-game set. The Ducks beat Hawaii Saturday night 5-4. Oregon closes the series today against the Rainbows with first pitch scheduled for 3:05 p.m. (PDT).

Hirscher wins worlds slalom — Overall World Cup champion Marcel Hirscher won the men’s slalom title on the last day of the skiing world championships in Schladming, Austria, for his first individual gold at a major event. Hirscher held onto his first-run lead to finish in a combined time of 1 minute, 51.03 seconds. Felix Neureuther of Germany was 0.41 seconds back in second. Mario Matt of Austria took third, 0.65 behind. Three-time champion Ted Ligety of the United States skied out in the first run.

Raonic wins SAP Open — Milos Raonic won his third consecutive SAP Open on Sunday in San Jose, Calif., beating Tommy Haas 6-4, 6-3 for the title in the final year of the Bay Area tournament. Raonic has never lost in 12 matches in this event and became the first player in the Open era that began in 1968 to win this tournament three straight times and first overall since Tony Trabert did it from 1953-55.
Azarenka takes Qatar Open title — Defending champion Victoria Azarenka beat Serena Williams 7-6 (6), 2-6, 6-3 to win the Qatar Open on Sunday in Doha, Qatar, earning her 16th title and ending a 10-match losing streak against the American. Azarenka will give up the No. 1 ranking to Williams today, but extended her current winning streak to 14 matches, including her second Australian Open title.
Nadal wins in Brazil — Rafael Nadal beat David Nalbandian 6-2, 6-3 in the Brazil Open final on Sunday in Sao Paulo, winning his first title since returning from a seven-month layoff to treat his left knee. It was Nadal’s first title since winning the French Open for the seventh time last June.
Del Potro takes ABN AMRO title — Juan Martin Del Potro beat Julien Benneteau 7-6 (2), 6-3 on Sunday in Rotterdam, Netherlands, to win the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament, going one better than his runner-up spot last year. The 2009 U.S. Open winner was the runner-up in Rotterdam last year.

Force wins NHRA Funny Car — Courtney Force raced to victory in Funny Car at the NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, Calif., and defending Top Fuel world champion Antron Brown walked away from a fiery crash with only minor injuries on Sunday. Shawn Langdon (Top Fuel) and Vincent Nobile (Pro Stock) were also winners at the Drag Racing Series season opener at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona.
