The long wait for 9-year-old Haines resident Lindsey Bingham is over: Surgeons at the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital in Palo Alto, Calif., successfully completed a heart transplant this morning.
As of 9:30 a.m., Lindsey remained on a ventilator, but the new heart was beating and moving blood through her system, physicians said. Lindsey is expected to remain in intensive care for three days to a week.
