Eagle Watch set for next weekend

Enjoy family activities and watch birds of prey with experts Feb. 23-24 at Round Butte Overlook Park on Lake Billy Chinook.

The two-day Eagle Watch event is put on by Oregon State Parks, the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, Portland General Electric and Crooked River National Grassland. It features raptor education and Native American programs, kids’ activities, food and refreshments, and contests and prizes.

The watch will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 23 and 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 24.

Ten breeding pairs of bald and golden eagles live year-round near Lake Billy Chinook, according to Oregon State Parks. From January and March, large numbers of migratory bald eagles arrive from the far reaches of North America.
