A rundown of games and events to watch for locally and nationally from the world of sports:
NBA, Portland Trail Blazers at Miami Heat, 4:30 p.m. (Comcast SportsNet Northwest) — How will Portland match up with the defending champs on South Beach? The Blazers actually beat Miami 92-90 in January. Right now Portland is staying in the mix for a playoff spot in the Western Conference, while Miami is holding down the top spot in the East.
Men’s college basketball, North Carolina at No. 4 Duke, 6 p.m. (ESPN) — Usually, both the Tar Heels and the Blue Devils are ranked when they hook up in the regular season. But while Duke has been hanging around the top five, North Carolina isn’t having a typical season. But the most heated rivalry in college basketball will likely be one to watch, no matter what the rankings are.
Prep swimming, OSAA state championships at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham — Summit will attempt to defend its Class 5A boys and girls state titles and will be joined by representatives from Bend High and Mountain View. At the 4A/3A/2A/1A level, Madras will go after podium spots, as will first-year Ridgeview.
Prep wrestling, Special District 2 meet in La Grande— Five Central Oregon high schools — Crook County, La Pine, Madras, Ridgeview and Sisters — look to send wrestlers to the state championships in Portland. First, they will have to compete in the nine-team district meet at La Grande High School.
Trio of events at Bend WinterFest in the Old Mill District — The Day Glow Big Air Show will include invited skiers and snowboarders from throughout the Northwest performing tricks off of snow features on Friday and Saturday at 5:30, 6:30 and 8 p.m. Metal Mulisha freestyle motocross riders (pictured in 2010) will perform exhibitions on Sunday at 11:30 a.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. The Snow Warriors obstacle running race, featuring mud, snow and ice, is set for Sunday at noon.
