From Maine to New Jersey, millions of people, many with Superstorm Sandy still fresh in their minds, dug out from underneath mounds of snow.
But the combination of lucky timing — the storm arrived on a Friday — and advance warning gave residents plenty of time to hunker down and get off the roadways. That limited the problems and should allow a straightforward cleanup.
Many were left with serious consequences, however. Hundreds of thousands lost power, and on New York’s Long Island, abandoned cars littered the roadways, left by people who could not make it home Friday night as the storm intensified.
Hours after the storm passed, major airports and train stations had reopened.
