The Partnership to End Poverty on Tuesday announced a $25,000 grant to the Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council and Cascades East Transit to help establish a fixed-route bus system in Redmond.
The planned route would run from the current CET transit hub at the Redmond Library to the Central Oregon Community College Redmond campus and the Redmond Airport. The only public transit currently serving the area is the Dial-A-Ride system, which requires passengers to schedule a ride 24 hours in advance.
According to a news release from the partnership, it will require approximately $40,000 to operate the bus route through 2014. Service on the new route is expected to begin later this month.
