Military Notes
Army National Guard Pvt. Tyler Sorensen graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, in Columbus, Ga. Sorensen is a 2011 graduate of Baker High School and the son of Bobbie Reynolds, of Prineville.
Air Force Airman Alan Chong Carbo graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. Chong Carbo is a 2012 graduate of Redmond High School and the son of Javier Chong, of Redmond.
Army Pvt. Kenneth Christensen graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, in Columbus, Ga. Christensen is a 2011 graduate of Mountain View High School and the son of Eric and Ranae Christensen, of Bend.
Teen Feats
Two Bend teams placed in the 12th annual Intel Oregon FIRST LEGO League Championship Tournaments held at Liberty High School in Hillsboro, Jan. 19-20. The “American Fish" from Cascades Academy of Central Oregon was awarded first place in the Garmin Teamwork Award and the i-Team, a team of homeschooled students, was awarded second place in the Vernier Software & Technology Robot Programming Award.
Lacey Wickersham has been named February's High Desert Hero by The Center Foundation of Bend. Wickersham, a senior at Mountain View High School, maintains a 4.0 GPA. She is a member of Interact Club, speech and debate, My Future My Choice, tutoring, theater, Red Cross Club and was a production assistant intern with BendBroadband. She has volunteered with the Deschutes Public Library system, Aspen Ridge Memory Care, The Duck Race, Night Strike and Dump Clean-up. Wickersham also works part-time at ShopKo.
