Remembering George James Larson Jr.

April 19, 1919 – January 3, 2013

Eagle Crest/Redmond resident George J. Larson Jr. passed away on January 3, 2013, at the age of 93.

He was born April 9, 1919, to George James Larson and Della Ann Driscoll Larson in San Jose, CA, where he lived until the age of 14. He went on to attend Beverly Hills High School and the University of Southern California until the outbreak of WWII.

A proud U.S. Navy veteran, he graduated among the top of his midshipman class, and went on to see action in the Pacific as the skipper of PT Boat 189.

At the conclusion of the war, George moved to Centralia, WA, where he met Stella Marie Wylam, of Hoquiam, WA, who would become his wife of 53 years.

By 1952, George and Stella moved their growing family to the Los Angeles area, where George joined his father in establishing a ladder and scaffold business.

In 1995, he and his wife moved to Eagle Crest. In retirement, George enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, oil painting, photography, and dancing. Known for his sense of humor and generosity, he also became an expert woodworker, and was known for the beautiful clocks that he gifted to family and friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Stella. He is survived by his four children: John (Robbie) Larson of Granada Hills, CA; James (Terri) Larson of Simi Valley, CA; Thomas (Jeri) Larson of Glendale, AZ; and Ann (Jary) Winstead of Powell Butte, OR. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Dana Blake, Jeff Larson, Kelly White, Hope Larson, Justin Larson; and one great-grandson, Brendan Blake.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
