Sheriff joins online crime maps

Published: February 02. 2013 4:00AM PST

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office has joined its counterparts on the Bend and Redmond police departments and moved its crime data online.

The sheriff’s office partnered with BAIR Analytics Inc. to create an online crime map called RAIDS Online (www.raidsonline.com) that maps and analyzes crime data, alerts citizens to crimes in their area and allows the Sheriff’s Office to alert the public about crimes as they occur, the sheriff’s office announced Friday.

County residents can view a map and grid the sheriff’s office said tracks all of the crime in their area, sign up for an automatic email breakdown of recent crime activity or submit anonymous tips about crime directly to law enforcement, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

“RAIDS Online automatically syncs with the Sheriff’s Office’s records system to keep crime information updated online and in the mobile app. RAIDS Online cleans and geocodes the crime data, then displays all of the incidents on a map, grid and analytics dashboard along with some basic information about the incidents, including the type of crime, location type, block-level address, date and time," according to the sheriff’s office.

RAIDS Online will also be available on the Sheriff’s Office website http://sheriff.deschutes.org in the Quick Links box.
