Donald G. Brown, 90, of La Pine, died on January 16, in Bend. Don was born Oct. 1, 1922 in Lynn, Massachusetts. Before graduating from high school, he set off to see America in his Model A through all 48 states.

He served in the 10th Mountain Division during World War II and returned to graduate in journalism from the University of Oregon, where he met his wife, Marva Hutchison. He worked for many years as a reporter and business editor at the Eugene Register Guard.

Survivors include one brother, Lloyd; sister, Harriet; three children, Sue Anne Henneck, Barry and Rob Brown, four grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.

Don described himself as a "citizen-soldier". He loved history and published "Love Letter to Americans", a tribute to people and events that made a difference in his life. His outlook was insightful, optimistic, and humorous. We dearly miss you, father, grandfather, brother, friend.

A private ceremony with military honors will be held at Willamette National Cemetery at a later date. Remembrances in Dons name, may be made to Partners In Care Hospice, 2075 NE Wyatt Ct., Bend, Oregon.
