Colts hire Stanford coordinator — New Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton is eager to get started. Just minutes after Indianapolis made the hiring official Saturday, Hamilton told reporters he was eager to reunite with three of his former pupils at Stanford — quarterback Andrew Luck, tight end Coby Fleener and receiver Griff Whalen. Hamilton replaces Bruce Arians, who was hired as Arizona’s head coach Thursday.
49ers’ Crabtree questioned — San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree has voluntarily met with police in their investigation into an alleged sexual assault in a hotel after the team’s playoff victory over the Green Bay Packers last weekend, his attorney said Saturday. “Michael fully cooperated with the inspectors and will continue to do so throughout this investigation," the attorney, Joshua Bentley, said in a brief statement emailed to The Associated Press.

NCAA making changes — The NCAA Division I Board of Directors has approved a set of proposals considered the first step toward trying to simplify and deregulate the organization’s often complex and sometimes unenforceable rules. On the final day of the NCAA convention in Grapevine, Texas, the board Saturday approved 25 proposals. Among the intriguing changes to take effect Aug. 1 will be the elimination of some rules about how and how often coaches can communicate with recruits outside of some no-contact periods that will remain in place.

Innerhofer wins — Christof Innerhofer of Italy won the classic Lauberhorn downhill on Saturday in Wengen, Switzerland, and Johan Clarey of France set a World Cup speed record of 100.6 mph. Innerhofer timed 2 minutes, 29.82 seconds down the 2.74-mile course, the longest on the World Cup program. Klaus Kroell of Austria was second, 0.30 seconds behind Innerhofer. Another Austrian, Hannes Reichelt, was 0.76 back in third. Clarey, who placed fifth, clocked the fastest speed recorded in competition in the 46-year history of the World Cup.
