Robert Citron, 87: Former Orange County treasurer whose bad bets on exotic Wall Street investments resulted in what at the time in 1997 was the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history. Died Wednesday.

John Nkomo, 79: Second of two vice presidents of Zimbabwe; he was a former opponent of President Robert Mugabe and a longtime activist for his country’s independence. Died Thursday in a hospital in Harare, Zimbabwe.
